This is the best book I have read this year. It’s a stunning mixture of a vision of the future, strong relationships and…zombies (no – don’t let that put you off – it is not a ‘typical’ zombie book). Mary lives in a very small village, surrounded by high metal fences. Inside the village the sisters who live in the cathedral keep control; the guardians patrol to keep everyone safe and Mary waits for a boy she loves to speak for her and finds out too many secrets. Outside the fence the unconsecrated continually moan and reach out for the villagers, whose flesh draws them continually…and then the fence is breached! I’m getting goosebumps as I write this. This book is "unputdownable". You must read it!
